The association between hypnosis and the subconscious mind is an absolute association because hypnosis is essentially a strategy for exploring the content of the subconscious mind. In the following, we describe a basic understanding of the subconscious mind according to our opinion.
The subconscious mind or what is called the subconscious mind is one of the two layers of the mind (one of which is the conscious mind ). Another term that is often used to refer to the subconscious mind is the unconscious mind . But for us the unconscious mind is the area of the mind in the subconscious ; unconscious means the area of the unconscious.
The human mind is divided into two layers, namely: (1) The Conscious Mind and (2) the Subconscious Mind in which there are (a) the mind preconscious ( preconscious ) and (b) nirsadar mind ( unconscious ).
According to experts in various circles, such as Sigmund Freud, believe that humans only use about 10-18% of their minds in their daily lives. In addition, He also stated that the conscious mind and subconscious mind can be seen as an “iceberg”; what appears on the surface is only a small part (conscious mind) and underneath there is a larger part (subconscious mind).
The conscious mind is the mind that works in daily life when we are thinking about something, interacting consciously, making conscious decisions, carrying out the analysis process, and so on. The conscious mind is basically short-term memory , which always works to access long-term memory , which is nothing but the subconscious mind. The performance of the conscious mind or short-term memory is so high in frequency that it is called working memory .
The subconscious mind is a repository of information that comes through experience in the form of long-term memories that make up: personality, habits, emotional triggers, action triggers, creativity, and a large amount of other potential data. The subconscious mind always receives information or data that has been selected at the level of the conscious mind. This is tantamount to saying that all long-term memory essentially passes through short-term memory.
Thus, the conscious mind and short-term memory are "portals" for the journey of data, information, memories, to the subconscious mind or long-term memory. Therefore Sigmund Freud stated that the conscious mind is only a small part of the whole human mind.
We live our daily lives with all activities that involve our subconscious mind. The conscious mind is tasked with receiving input from external stimuli, selecting them, and either allowing them to pass or blocking them from entering the subconscious mind. This critical analysis process is often referred to as a critical factor that occurs in a critical area which is believed to be the edge or threshold between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.
Hypnosis and the Subconscious Mind
The subconscious mind stores a number of programs that run in our daily lives. To make a change (eg behavior) then the change must occur at the subconscious level. Hypnosis is one thing that can do this.
Hypnosis uses induction techniques, which reduce the quality of the conscious mind's performance (short-term memory), especially its analytical activities so that suggestions can enter the subconscious mind without being criticized by the subconscious mind.
There are many ways other than through hypnosis to achieve this goal. By doing affirmations (suggestions that are repeated until it is accepted by the conscious mind), the use of authority, the use of high-intensity emotions, and so on. Hypnosis is just one way that is considered the most efficient because it is fast and easy.
The subconscious mind is an area where meanings are anchored, triggers are installed, so that psychosomatic symptoms often appear that the cause is not aware of (because the cause is already in the unconscious area). For this reason, through hypnosis, the data in the unconscious area will be brought to the preconscious area to be redesigned.
Hypnosis works not only with the subconscious mind but also the conscious mind. Because the conscious mind is a portal for conveying suggestions, the acceptance of suggestions itself relies on the conscious mind. However, through appropriate induction and deepening, the analytical function of the conscious mind is reduced. This does not mean that the conscious mind is inactive, because the subconscious mind can only be accessed by the conscious mind (just like long-term memory can only be accessed by short-term memory).
The conscious mind and the subconscious mind are a unit but perform different functions. Therefore, the understanding that hypnosis only works with the subconscious mind needs to be straightened out.
Thus a brief explanation of the subconscious mind that we can convey as basic information before you enter other parts of hypnosis. Of course, there are many details of the subconscious mind that we don't cover here but you will find in various other articles on this blog or through other sources.
